I LOVE coding, great design and writing, and I have lots of experience working in the business world and running non-profits. I’ve created over 210 websites since 1997, and can’t wait to make more!
Here’s how I’ve gained such varied expertise:
Business Experience:
I started my eclectic career as a Manufacturing Systems Consultant at Price Waterhouse. After that, I worked as the Profit Improvement Coordinator at Robinson’s and then I worked in the Finance department at The Disney Stores. I was also the 5th employee at eToys.com. When eToys closed its doors, I returned to my successful freelance website design business.
From 2011-2014 I took a break from freelancing to serve as the Social Media Strategist for the USC Rossier School of Education. I managed all of the school’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), took 1000’s of photos, created several WordPress sites, used Ning to create a proprietary social network, used InDesign to create ads and brochures and produced promotional videos using FinalCut Pro. I also crafted hundreds of Constant Contact emails, including a Daily Digest of top education-related articles that I sent to over 10,000 people each day. I returned to freelancing when my daughter graduated and life presented the opportunity to have more flexibility.
Non-Profit Experience:
Highlights include: President of the Stanford Club of Palos Verdes/South Bay, Stanford Class Correspondent, President of the South Bay Auxiliary of Harbor Interfaith Services, Stanford Professional Women (many board roles), Stanford Associates Board of Governors, former PTA President (five years), Past President of the La Cañada Flintridge Education Foundation, Board Member of Speak Up for the Poor, marketing advisory committee for La Cañada Presbyterian Church.
Coding:
I’ve loved programming ever since my high school physics teacher let us come in before school to play around on his home-built TRS-80. After a stint as a Boy Scout Computer Explorer Scout, I earned a BS and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. I love to learn new languages and play around with them to make great things.
Writing:
Although I was an engineer in college, I also found time to be an Editor at The Stanford Daily. Since then, I’ve enjoyed writing and blogging as part of my profession and on a personal basis. Between 2007-2012 I wrote over 1,500 entries on my personal WordPress blog.
Design:
I dabbled in graphic design in college, and have appreciated fine design ever since. Lately I’ve enjoyed painting with gouache, acrylic and oils, and was recently honored with an award for my work. I’m a true believer that people will be more attracted to a beautiful site that is clearly organized and reflects an organization’s goals.
